Spring Fling Earring Swap: The Goods

A few weeks ago I participated in the Spring Fling Earring Swap. I thought it was such a cute idea and since one of my favorite tweeps was hosting it: @yesteacher- there was no way I couldn't participate. There was a little of all the things I love involved: Shopping, getting presents in the mail, blogging and jewelry. This my friends is the definition of winning in my book.

My partner Andie (Etsy Shop owner at: Rays of Love) sent me 2 pairs of earrings. I love, love, love this set. She made them. I am so thankful she took the time to do this. They are so pretty and well made. They are bronze rectangles and look so great with almost all of the spring clothes that I have bought so far. I've worn them several times and they are super comfortable and cute.

While searching for some awesome earrings to send for her, I couldn't help but pick up a few for myself. Both sets below came from one of my favorite etsy shops: Pretty Things By Meg.

So all in all - I made out like a bandit.

I See You Reading, Even If You Don't Comment

Thank you so much to all of those who read my blog. Thank you even if you never ever leave a comment. Thank you if you only have time to stop by every great once in a while. Thank you if you can only stop by while you wait for the load of laundry to dry. Thank you if you found my blog through google search for Little things matter. Thank you all.

Just the fact that you take the time to read the words I write...brings joy to my heart.

A couple of days ago I was blessed with this sweet e-mail. It was a gentle reminder that their are readers out there. While there are a few that comment regularly there are a few that merely read without making their presence known other than in the form of stats.

But reading it again I just want to dive face first into the thought that someone took the time to say I see you and what you are all about.

After a thank you e-mail sent back - I decided to post it for you to see. Maybe you have a blog that you really connect with. Read everyday and commiserate with...or just want to offer encouragement to.

You never know what just this little act of kindness might mean to them.

I just want to tell you that I've been a subscriber for a few months now. I really enjoy reading your posts.  You seem to be a wonderful mother who really cares about her family. I am proud of you for taking the time to do special little things with your kids (like getting a pedi with your little girl). So special!  Often times we, as moms, get so busy we forget to do special little things like that. I love the way you put so many photos too.

a quick note to tell you how much i appreciate you taking the time to write and share your life.

:) Laura

Now run over to Laura's cute blog:

After checking out Laura's blog...I subscribed. I love how she thinks of all the tips, tricks and thoughts she has about motherhood as super glue. With all the directions that we are constantly being pulled in...that's exactly what it's like.

Tuesday's Our Busiest Day - No Wrenches Allowed

Today at 3:00 when my youngest son, Ethan got into the car he was super duper excited about the fact that he might win a Nintendo DS at the Bingo Bash tonight....

At that very moment I was still trying to figure out how I was going to be able to get groceries for the week, make it back to the house in time to get Miss Maddy ready for Baby Tap and the boys ready for Soccer...all the while vague thoughts of dinner were dancing around my head.

To be honest I had no idea about the Bingo Bash...turns out Hubby had seen the note but thrown it out since there are no room for wrenches in our Tuesday nights.

As I listened to this cute 6 year old gush about how lame he thought Bingo was until he found out about all the prizes that could be won. How he was going to meet his friend Val - and sit with him. I knew in that moment that there was no way I could say no.

So we shuffled...and split up. We made time for the little boy who is such a good sport 2 nights a week for his brothers and sister.

While he didn't win a Nintendo DS - he did win a prize.

He won...wait for it...a gift certificate to his Grandpa's restaurant. The one that we eat at for free already. We asked them to put it back into rotation and I am going to figure out some prize for this sweet little boy. He showed me tonight that even when you know that there is no possible way to make time for one more thing...you can.

Life With Boys: Ponds, Tadpoles and Fun

It's a new era in my life with boys. They have started to make friends outside the home and are actually bringing them home. I'm not exactly sure how I would feel about this situation if it were reversed. If it were my kids rushing off to someone else's house. I would worry about everything from their manners to how they were treated.

But one more kid here? It can't be that much harder than my 4 rough and rowdy kids.

Except it can be.

I wish my kids could have grown up with me. I wish they could have rode their bikes all around town without a second thought that someone could harm them. That they could run and explore without their Mother tagging along checking out the strangers around them. I feel sorry for them that their Mother is shown a barrage of all the bad things that go on all around the world on a daily basis. That she sometimes feels panic stricken with something so sweet as little boys catching tadpoles. That she imagines new reports of drowning's and reporters (if you can call them that nowadays) discussing whether or not she could have avoided it.

My kids are cautious. They think before they act most of the time. They have been trained to by me.  So when we visited the local park complete with pond I didn't anticipate watching them delve their sweaty hands into the slimy waters of the pond. Nor did I think that I would be as exited as they were when they were finally able to accomplish their mission.

As I sat on the bench with Miss Maddy watching my little boys be little boys I got a little misty eyed. I tried to calm my heart as they raced around the pond looking for the mother load of all things slimy and green. I tried to quiet my mind, which was thinking all sorts of terrible thoughts. I could imagine having to dive in after one of my boys who still can't swim. I sat back in the sunshine and watched my dream childhood for my kids come to life. They didn't have a care in the world. They weren't thinking or worried about anything other than this moment.

Finally so was I.

They were successful. Catching about 50 tadpoles with everything from leaves to their bare hands. I was thankful that there was only one moment of panic. My youngest slipped on a rock but was able to keep himself above the water with his hand. His brother and new friend pulled him to safety.

After a while I took Miss Maddy around looking at flowers...well the weedish first flowers of Oklahoma that the gardener will be mowing down very soon. I just wish that I knew what I was doing with my camera. I got very lucky a couple of times, but I have no idea how to do it again. I am trying to keep my camera on the setting that fixes aperture then I can flip through the f-stops to find the right one.

This last one I am submitting for Faith's Simplicity Photography challenge: Flowers and Leaves:

Only the first photo was edited. Using picnik.com...the rest are as is.

What Did You Say?

I was a Mother was speechless: While Giving Blood last week Hubby started feeling a little faint...so oldest said:

Don't be a wimp.

Don't be a baby...

Then he said don't B a P***y. <- the air was sucked out of the room or maybe it was the speed with which my head whipped around.

I was frantic trying to get this kid (who was stunned by my anger) to tell me where he had heard that. Turns out he meant scaredy cat. He kept saying I just left the cat off.

I was not sure what to do. Threaten? Ignore? Lecture? I, who am no stranger to profanity, was stunned.

After calming down, I explained that it wasn't a word that he should ever use. That it wasn't a nice jab at his Dad but rather a profanity that is punishable to the very extent of Mother Law.

The worst part - now they (my 2 other boys heard him and saw my reaction) know how bad of a dirty word it is.  I wish that I could have kept them naive just a little while longer.

What would you have done or said? This is my first experience with this and not sure that I handled it in the best way.
