Cinnamon Ornaments
Thanks to the craftiest person I never met Sara - the kids and I had a blast making cinnamon ornaments. Not only did my house smell super amazing while they were cooking but since we only needed a total of two things to make them it was well within our already stretched December budget! All you need is 3/4 cup of applesauce, entire bottle of cinnamon and cookie cutters:
1. Preheat oven to 200°F. Mix 3/4 cup of applesauce and entire bottle of cinnamon in small bowl until a smooth ball of dough is formed. Using about 1/4 of the dough at a time, roll dough to 1/4-inch to 1/3-inch thickness between two sheets of plastic wrap. Peel off top sheet of plastic wrap. Cut dough into desired shapes with 2- to 3-inch cookie cutters. Make a hole at top of ornament with drinking straw or skewer. Place ornaments on baking sheet.
2. Bake 2 1/2 hours. Cool ornaments on wire rack.
While the ornaments were baking the kids made quick work of the left over applesauce:
3. Insert ribbon through holes and tie to hang.
While I usually buy a couple of ornaments each year to add to our collection (if I am real honest here I would say to replace the ones that were broken by little hands) but it was really fun to make a few homemade ornaments. My kids love crafts and have been riding me lately about the fact that we haven't done much in the way of craft projects this year. Thanks so much again to Sara for taking the time to find me a few projects that my kids really loved!
