Without Them, I Wouldn't Be Me

It's a fact that there are times that I need a break. There are times that I would give my left arm for just one of my kids to go to bed quickly and quietly. There are also times when I think how could you possibly by my children? I didn't raise heathens. I didn't raise whiners. But the truth is, I did. It's normal. It's not always pleasant, but it certainly is normal.

Each and every day I am thankful that these kids are mine. I am thankful that they are healthy and happy. I am thankful that I have enough to provide the things that they need and sometimes even want in life.

I am grateful that I get the chance to make a difference in the lives of 4 people. I get to shape their world with my attitude and willingness to understand what they need from me.

Sometimes it's as simple as a summer treat. Other times it's as hard as saying no to something they have been looking forward to for a long time.

My wish for these 4 kids:

I hope that they look back at their childhood and remember it well. I hope that the things that we do together, for each other and in spite of all the turmoil that is going on in the world around us makes a huge impression. I hope that they look back and think - we had it so good. Why did we have to go and grow up?

Next year Miss Maddy will be 5. My baby will be in Kindergarten. She will be old enough for all the things that we have been waiting for, holding off on. One of the things that I am preparing for, besides the fact that she will be much more of a kid and way less of a baby, is a family vacation.

I am starting a savings account now. I want to take my kids to see the ocean, Mount Rushmore and skiing. I want them to leave our home with experiences. I want them to enter the world with a sense of the world. I want them to travel. I want for them a lot of things that I never had the chance to experience. I want to create memories that will never be forgotten and memories that they might like to re-create with their own kids.

Do you take family vacations?

  1. Yes, I hope my kids look back on their childhood with such fondness as well. I have a feeling you're well on your way to lasting memories already.

  4. I love that one day your kids are going to look back and see these wonderful posts from you. We don't take vacations to "destinations" anymore. Wish I could afford to go back to Disney World.
