Confession Time
Last night I wanted to make a batch of Rhodes dinner rolls to go along with the next night's dinner. I was first introduced to these rolls thanks to my mother in law, who makes them every holiday. They are so amazing that I have thoughts of smuggling a few into my purse each and every time she makes them.
They are very simple to make. She sprays a muffin tin with Pam, put them in frozen and in pairs. After letting them rise, she bakes them off and smothers the top with butter. They are pure bliss to my carb loving heart.
But no matter how simple and easy they are to make, I just can't make them. I've tried and tried to get them to rise in my kitchen but it just isn't warm enough. I have even tried the quick rise method with bad results.
So I decided to take the advice of a co-worker and let them rise in my car.
Yes, you read that right. In the car.
I got the dinner rolls all nestled in pairs in my muffin tin and put it in my car. Turns out this is the perfect place for them to rise. It's a warm and draft free environment. They turned out beautifully risen and ready for the oven.
At least that's the way that we found them this morning when taking the kids to tennis lessons. I completely forgot about them last night and this morning they were a little baked and suited for nothing other than the trash.
Note to self: next time set a timer or make your self a note so that you don't forget about the dinner rolls rising in the car.
What's the last thing that you forgot about?

So funny...ha..I have those in the freezer so I'm going to pull a couple out for dinner. Yum..
ReplyDeleteToo funny! Totally something I would do. Is this what you used for monkey bread?
ReplyDeleteOh that is so something I would do! Too funny!
ReplyDeleteI was going to heat the oven to about 150', shut it off and then put rolls in to rise. I got a little distracted and turned it on 350' instead and ended up with 2 dozen hockey pucks.
ReplyDeleteOh, they would have made great bird food!!
ReplyDeleteLOL That is SO something I would do. If I left them in my garage in my van they'd never rise because it's the coolest place in the house!
