A Frugal Friend is Back!!

Every Monday I participate in Mailbox Monday w/ A Frugal Friend...I was a little worried this week when I went to link up and Got this Message: "Blogger Not Found"--- what?

Thinking that surely this a mistake I kept checking back -- still no Frugal Friend...turns out she got tagged as a Spam Site and Blogger Shut Her Down...I mean completely...We can't get in...she Can't get in...

It's completely ridiculous -- I have been following her blog for a while now -- she just posts frugal tips, freebies and all sorts of other awesomeness like product reviews and the like.

I can't wait until she gets back up and running...but until then?

She has set up a temporary site and will be blogging there!! YAHH! Welcome Back Debra...

Check her out HERE!!

Wash it first!!

While watching Good Morning America this morning I was both surprised and disgusted.

With the passing of Christmas and everyone giving and receiving new clothes...I thought that I would share what I just saw on Good Morning, America. They did a story about whether or not you should wash new clothes or just wear them...now personally I wore mine...but I won't make that mistake again.

They purchased 14 new items of clothing and had them tested for bacteria...it was disgusting what they found on them!! You can check out the full story
HERE to see what kind of nastiness was
found!

This really turned my stomach -- I have always worn brand new clothes!! Mostly because they are supposed to be brand new...but from now on that tag is not going to mean the same thing to me!!

I remember the awesome feeling of getting all kinds of new clothes while school clothes shopping and being so excited to wear all new EVERYTHING...but YUK...if I had know that there was all that nastiness on them...it certainly wouldn't have been so awesome!!

Makes me wonder how many times I have exposed myself to germs and paid the price with a cold or the flu.
What about my kids...once they were past the point of using dreft...I didn't continue this step!!

It is recommended that you either wash them or run them through one cycle in a hot dryer.

What about you...do you wash your clothes before wearing them?

The Sweet By and By by Sara Evans and Rachel Hauck

This was a lovely book that read like a country song sings...when I am listening to country music...it's easy to think that the song was written about me...or for me...this book was the same way!

I kept thinking that this book was written for me! I was able to relate so well to the main character in the book...but also to a couple of the supporting characters too.

I am a big fan of Sara Evans and when I had the chance to read this book...I was so excited. The story line was completely believable which I appreciated so much. I wasn't able to put this book down and was a little sad once I was done...Jade was such a great character...she really comes alive in this book...for all the things that she had to endure, I love that in the end she was able to face them and deal with the situations in the best way that she knew how. I was really excited to find out that there are 3 more books coming to continue this story!!

I love when I read a book and can put myself in the place of the main character.

I think that we can all relate to trying to put our past behind us and moving one...the thing is -- if you don't deal with the issues that you have...they always come back to haunt you.

Jade kept a lot of her struggles bottled up but nothing causes emotions to bubble up more than stressful situations...and I can think of nothing more stressful than a wedding...especially your own. I loved the way that the writers flash backed and showed the who's and why's of the characters struggles.

This is a great read for all you women out there or for the women in your lives. I am going to pass this book along to my sister...I think that she will enjoy it as much as I have.

Book Description

A redemptive story from multi-platinum recording artist Sara Evans.

Jade Fitzgerald left the pain of her past in the dust when she headed out for college a decade ago. Now she's thriving in her career and glowing in the light of Max Benson's love.

But then Jade's hippie mother, Beryl Hill, arrives in Whisper Hollow, Tennessee, for Jade's wedding along with Willow, her wild younger sister. Their arrival forces Jade to throw open the dark closets of her past--the insecurity of living with a restless, wandering mother, the silence of her absent father, and the heart-ripping pain of first-love's rejection.

Turns out Beryl has a secret of her own. She needs reconciliation with her oldest daughter before illness takes her life. In the final days leading to the wedding, Jade meets the One who shows her that the past has no hold on her future. With a little grace, they'll meet in the middle, maybe even before that sweet by and by.

Check out this video of the lovely Sara Evans herself talking about her wonderful novel and giving out some info about the books to follow...I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in this series!!

UPDATED: A NOTE FROM A FRUGAL FRIEND:

Hi everyone.......A Frugal Friend has NOT gone AWOL! HaHa

Blogger has locked me out since Wednesday night....saying their computers think I'm a SPAM blog. WIth the holidays, there wasn't much I could do.

If you could let everyone know I'm still here and just waiting on Blogger/Google to unlock my blog........thanks for hosting Mailbox Monday for me :-)

Ashleigh at Thankfully Thrifty knew all about my Blogger troubles before she left for her vacation....but with the holiday week I didn't want to bother any of you.....secretly hoping it would get fixed by today. No such luck!

Fingers crossed!

Well if last week was slow this week was down right tortoise like!! I know what the problem is...I don't have enough time to invest in signing up for freebies...when I first started blogging...this was one of my favorite things. I am not sure what happened to A Frugal Friend's blog...Blogger is saying Blog not found. Does anyone know what that means?

I was waiting to link up this morning but she seems to have gone AWOL? Here is a linky so that we can all still visit each other and let's hope that A Frugal Friend finds her way back!! I have been having such a great time visiting everyone's blog to check out their goodies of the week!

A Penny For Your Thoughts!!

See a Penny pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck!!

My kids are constantly picking up spare change from the ground...I have never really given a second thought to it...it makes them happy -- but does it make a difference to the world? Not unless you make it.

Thanks to Madame Deals I have been alerted to a great project that I would love to share with you!

Jeffery Stain picked up a penny in front of a group of people including some teenagers who scoffed at the idea that a penny was worth stopping for...this got him to thinking about the value of a penny. He sold that penny to an artist who used it in a painting which got other artist's to use penny's in their art...They are all going to get together to see their penny art and the proceeds are going to used to buy food using coupons of course for Food Banks!!

What an awesome idea!!

Jeffery is going to try to turn his found penny into 1 million dollars in donated food!!

My first thought after visiting The Penny Experiment was :

What can I do to help?

Tell Others: Tell your friend, family and anyone else that you know about Penny Experiment. The more people that know about it, the better chance that it will succeed.

Become A Fan On Facebook: If you are really motivated, you can take it even a step further and write something about Penny Experiment on your wall.

Follow Penny Experiment On Twitter and give a tweet from time to time to let your followers know about it.

Blog About Penny Experiment: If you have a blog or website, write a blog post about Penny Experiment.

Put Penny Experiment In Your Signature: Place Penny Experiment in the signature of your email or the signature of your posts on any forum where you are a regular member.

Send Coupons: The more coupons that I can get, the more chances I have to save when making food purchases for the food banks. If you have coupons that you will not use, consider sending them to me.

Purchase Penny Experiment Art: When the art becomes available for purchase, consider buying it. Not only will you get a unique piece of artwork, the money raised will also provide much more than that (hopefully 5 to 10 times as much) worth of food to local food banks through the use of coupons

Six Word Saturday

If you would like to JOIN IN -- Click on the image above and link up your post with 6 words describing your life!!

My Six Words:

Just as Fun as I Remember!!

The kids got DS's for Christmas and they are loving them! Hubby rented a few new games (including Super Mario Brothers) and now I am having a ton of fun too. It's just as fun as I remember it being as a kid. While it's a little different from the original -- there are different sized mushrooms...one that makes you a giant and one that makes you a teeny tiny little thing....but it's the same sound effects and mostly the same game. One big Plus is that it saves your extras...say you already have flower power...find another flower...it saves it for you -- so when you need it-- you can use it!!

My kids are thinking that I am a rock star with the games too -- which is pretty cool. I had to explain to them that I got quite a lot of practice at this game when I was their age.

I have to be careful while playing around the kids though-- this is the only game that makes me want to curse...lol. I hate to die on the easy parts!! You know when you are first starting out in a level and you mis judge a jump or try to go back once you have jumped and fall between!! Or jump right into the face of oncoming villans? It sucks!!

Ok I want to talk about the myth of jumping over the flag pole too...Hubby and I were talking about this the other day and we thought that it was a bunch of baloney!

BUT I DID IT kinda

I was on the other side of the flag pole sliding down at the end of one of the levels...you would have thought that I won the lottery -- I was so excited!! LOL...I'm a dork I know this...but at least I have a dork Hubby too...we were taking turns playing after the kids went to sleep last night.

I am hoping that Family Video will have Super Mario Brothers for the Wii instock soon. Although I am not sure that it will be that easy to play since the Nintendo DS is set up just like the old Nintendo Controllers.

Have any of you played this game? Are you a little addicted too?

Aloha # 16

From Kailani at An Island Life:
In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link HERE. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

My Question:

What is not one of your New Year's Resolutions?

This is the time when we all think about what we would like to change in the new year...but what have you learned to live with?
