Starting New Holiday Traditions
I haven't been at my jolliest the last couple of weeks. Christmas time is supposed to be so fun and exciting but as the Mother of 4 - it really brings a lot of stress trying to get everything done. So in an effort to bring a little more holiday cheer to my house I am starting a new tradition this year with my kids. We are counting down the days with presents. I wish that I had started a little earlier as this would have saved me a ton of money. I could have spread out my purchases over time instead of trying to buy everything a couple of days before the countdown started. With that said - it's totally been worth it.
My kids woke up on December 1rst to 24 presents. The look on their faces when we told them that they could open one a day was priceless. The presents have simple things like small candies, games, playdough & cookie cutters, activity pads, coloring books, craft supplies, cake pops, new stockings, window clings and even a ginger bread house.
Simply putting this together has helped to bring Christmas spirit into my heart and remind me what this season is all about. It's not about having the best decorated house, finding the perfect present or anything else that we can all get distracted by this time of year. It's about your family and spending time with those you love. Creating happy memories that they will cherish.
My absolute favorite box contained marshmallow, hot chocolate and popcorn...
We opened it and sat as a family and watched The Polar Express. I so wish that our movie theater would bring this movie back every year. It's much more magical on the big screen but it was pretty nice to snuggle up with just the six of us and be so grateful that we are all together and happy.
What do you do to get in spirit or create memories for your kids?

This is one of the nicest, most fun holiday traditions that I have heard of in a long time.
ReplyDeleteWe started our Elf on the Shelf last year, and that's become our traiditon to help[ count the days til Christmas.
That's a pretty good idea. Right now our kids are "all Santa" everything, so I won't steal the idea from you just yet. But a few years from now, I will surely be implementing it. Glad it was able to inject a little Christmas spirit into your holidays.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your idea!!! You are such a thoughtful mom :)
ReplyDeleteOkay, now I feel like I got no parenting skills.
ReplyDeleteI really like that idea! Every gift will be appreciated so much more, and your ideas are so creative!
ReplyDeleteHi Mellisa!
ReplyDeleteI love your idea! I am sooo missing the Christmas spirit!
I get a glimpse of it now and then. IT enters my heart every so often through music, through kind gestures form another, being able to help someone...it's those things that really matter. :)
Thank you for being an inspiration! :)

ReplyDeletecool idea!! I still have to organize and wrap our bathroom full of presents.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!! I might try that next year. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat you are doing is fantastic!! I think this is a great tradition to start. Wish I would've thought of it! I may have to adopt it next year...if I remember it!

Great idea! We do an advent calendar and ours holds tiny gifts in drawers. It is the first thing The Boy thinks of when he wakes up in the morning!
