What Not to Expect When We Meet
Chrissy from Life As A Ceo and I are exchanging posts/letters this morning. We have been blogging friends for quite some time and are going to get to meet in Real Life at the Boston Bloggy Boot Camp - We are both really freaking excited but thought it might be good to let each other know somethings not to expect. Ya know cause there is only so much that you can tell about a blogger from their blog profile pic, posts and tweets.Make sure you stop by her blog to see what I didn't want her to expect too.
Dear Mellisa, I'm so excited to meet you at Bloggy Boot Camp in Boston next Spring! When I started blogging, I never thought I'd form relationships with people throughout the blogosphere, let alone say things to my hubby like, "my friend Mellisa blah-blah-blah" on a weekly basis! Some of my friends read my blog, but most do not even know it exists. I reveal things on here that I don't normally talk about on a daily basis, so sometimes I feel like my readers know me better than some of the people who are in my life every day.
I started thinking, though, that there are so many things you can't tell about a person from their pictures or words - like their tone of voice, their accents, what their true personality is like, etc. So I thought I'd send you a little note to give you a better idea of what to expect--or, really, what not to expect of me when we meet in May!
For starters, from my pictures, you may think I am out-going and talkative but I am really very shy. Sometimes I feel bit socially awkward and nervous around large crowds of people, so prepare yourself for a nervous ball of stress the whole weekend.
Sometimes when I get nervous, I crack really terrible jokes in an attempt to loosen up myself and take the pressure off any awkwardness my shy nature has caused.
When we first meet, I will not be one of those people who will run up to you, hug you and squeal like a teenage girl who just got to see her best friend after a weeks long vacation. In Jersey, we shake hands; fist bump at the most. But, to be perfectly honest, we really don't know each other well enough to fist-bump so we can save that for our goodbye.
Throughout the conference, I'll likely be reserved and will refrain from calling any attention to myself what-so-ever. I'll probably sit off to the side, and won't bother networking too much. Again, it's not because I don't want to, but because I am so stinkin' shy. But, don't let that hold yourself back.
Oh, and one thing you certainly won't hear from me is any cursing. {note: "stinkin' shy"} Cursing makes me highly uncomfortable and I really think that we should focus on being professional at Bloggy Boot Camp. It's a conference for bloggers, not truck drivers. Big difference, don't 'ya think?
Your bloggy-friend,
Chrissy "MacCEO"
PS - One last thing--I am totally fucking lying. While I may be a nervous ball of stress & energy that weekend {because, lets face it, it's me we're talking about!} I am not shy, quiet, or reserved in the least bit. I'll scream in excitement when I first see you, and hug & kiss you because that's how us Jersey girls roll. I will make terrible jokes, but they will be funny and you will tinkle in your pants at least once, I promise. So excited to meet you--let's hope you still are excited to meet me!

I really hope your readers get to the PS & know I'm totally joking ;) Thanks for trading posts with me today! STILL CAN'T WAIT TO MEET YOU!!!
ReplyDeleteHa! At first I was like, "Meh, this is kinda of a dull letter to a bloggy friend."
ReplyDeleteAnd then I got to the PS. Totally awesome!
Aww Chrissy sounds super fun. I think I may already be follower her, but I'mm off to visit her. Hope you're well!
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool! Wish I could come meet you both too.....sure you'll have an amazing time :-)
ReplyDeleteDam you, woman! I was all sad and disappointed till I got to the PS: "wot? not even a fist bump? Keep it professional?"
ReplyDeleteYou effin' rock!
I gotta admit, she had me going! Now that she mentions it, a conference for truck drivers might be kind of interesting. You two will have a wonderful time when you meet up ... as long as you keep it professional, right? HA!
ReplyDeleteHaha! Love this letter, especially the P.S.!

LMAO!!! This was great - Chrissy, you sound like a blast!
ReplyDeleteI'm giggling, because I read this and thought "She's from Jersey and she doesn't swear???" (no offense to anyone from New Jersey) I laughed out loud at the last paragraph... pretty impressive for 6:30 am on a Saturday after manning the house for an 8-year-old birthday sleepover!
ReplyDeleteToo fun. I loved the PS :)
ReplyDeleteThat is hysterical!!! She completely had me fooled. You are going to have such a blast together. I want to go hang out with you both in Boston now too :)
ReplyDeletePretty funny. I felt so bad for her that she was going to be this quiet girl that everyone was going to point at and talk about behind her back. With the PS she'll probably be the life of the Camp! Have fun you two!!

As I was reading this I was thinking, who the hell is she talking about? Her favorite thing to say is MF! Wallflower? Not the Chrissy I know. And we don't really fist pump her in Jersey, we'll still hug you! I too am looking forward to meeting you!
ReplyDeleteNo cursing? I read that and was thinking to myself, "oh, this chick and I would never get along.." but then the PS...awesome.
ReplyDeleteOmg! I was reading this and was thinking, what the ...??? Have I really mis-judged that badly? Thank GOD you cleared it all up!
ReplyDeleteNice letter.
ReplyDeleteI'm also very shy in person. I probably don't come across it in my blog but yeah...I can clam up.
LOL...I want to meet Chrissy now! You are going to have a blast!
ReplyDeleteBwahahahahahahaha.
ReplyDeleteHilarious. Can't WAIT to meet both of you.
