Jamie Oliver scared me
I wanted to share this video with all of you...My bloggy friend Sara @ sweet somethings sent a link to this video --After watching this -- I had a long talk with Hubby about what we could do for our kids -- While I do cook for and with my kids...We take them out to eat all the time -- they are eating chicken nuggets, pizza and all that for lunch everyday.
What we are going to try to commit to:
We are going to be putting in a garden -- I am going to get some seeds to start inside to be ready and Hubby is going to work on some raised beds for the yard.
We are going to start sending our kids to school with Lunches.
We are going to commit to eating out only once a week. (I wanted once a month but since we both work in a restaurant...Hubby wanted once a week. although I think once we get going...we can make it a month)
Would you like to join in with me? What can you commit to?

ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this video Mellisa! Jamie Oliver is my hero. I think one of the best things we can all do is spread the message that he's so powerfully putting out there! People need to get out of their denial mode and realize that they're killing themselves and their kids(!) by eating all this junk.
ReplyDeleteI made a commitment to my family's health by reading labels and not buying food with High Fructose Corn Syrup, partially hydrogenated oil, tons of sugar, or a shocking collection of preservatives and hormones. It's not hard to do if you have a little knowledge and a desire to feel better. Honestly - there are so many healthy choices available if you know what you're looking at. And the more we support the suppliers who offer them, the more of these good things there will be. Remember the whole "low carb" craze?? Everyone started buying that (junk - it was usually overly full of sugar) and like, overnight, low carb items and complete low carb stores popped up!!! Can you imagine if everyone started buying/asking for healthy food?? That's what the manufacturers would give us!!! It only took a few months with the low carb items. Amazing to think how fast we could transform this country into healthy eaters. Like I said: Jamie Oliver is my hero. Let's keep spreading his message :)

Thanks so much for posting this! I watched the whole thing and am inspired. I am going to get my son in the kitchen and teach him at least three healthy meals that he can fix himself. His first thought is always to go out to ear. Maybe, just maybe, if he has at least three healthy dishes he can fix, he'll start discovering the joy of eating well.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! We really need to change our eating habits!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this. I really think that I need to change all of our eating habits around here. With my kids and their terrible food allergies, it's hard to introduce new foods since they are limited as it is, but I really want to make a point of offering more whole foods each day.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you all loved this too! I was immediately inspired to make changes at home. We eat out far too often, so my goal is to start planning for more meals at home. I can't wait to get started!
ReplyDeleteIf you feel inspired by Jamie's campaign, he has created an online petition, promoting healthy food for children, that he will present to the White House. You can find the petition here:

I am in total agreement. My daughter will be starting school this year and will be bringing a lunch everyday. She is excited about having her own lunch box. Plus, as a family, we have decided to start eating healthier. We are slowly switching to a natural/organic diet and I am cooking almost all of our meals from scratch. While it may take more time out of my day, it is totally worth it.
