Wash it first!!
While watching Good Morning America this morning I was both surprised and disgusted.With the passing of Christmas and everyone giving and receiving new clothes...I thought that I would share what I just saw on Good Morning, America. They did a story about whether or not you should wash new clothes or just wear them...now personally I wore mine...but I won't make that mistake again.
They purchased 14 new items of clothing and had them tested for bacteria...it was disgusting what they found on them!! You can check out the full story HERE to see what kind of nastiness was

This really turned my stomach -- I have always worn brand new clothes!! Mostly because they are supposed to be brand new...but from now on that tag is not going to mean the same thing to me!!
I remember the awesome feeling of getting all kinds of new clothes while school clothes shopping and being so excited to wear all new EVERYTHING...but YUK...if I had know that there was all that nastiness on them...it certainly wouldn't have been so awesome!!
Makes me wonder how many times I have exposed myself to germs and paid the price with a cold or the flu. What about my kids...once they were past the point of using dreft...I didn't continue this step!!
It is recommended that you either wash them or run them through one cycle in a hot dryer.
What about you...do you wash your clothes before wearing them?

Interesting! I always wash new clothes for my kids, but i don't always for myself. I think i will now though! Thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteI always wash them first for me, Hubby, and my son. I mostly did it b/c my Hubby and son have sensitive skin and I like to see if the new clothes with bleed or shrink first.

I have always washed my kids clothes first, the both have such sensitive skin they break out.
ReplyDeleteIt's 50/50 with mine. Sometimes 8b/c I procrastinate!) I have had to wear it out of the store on the way somewhere! But lately I have been really good about washing first, and now I will forever more!
That is just gross. I always wash new towels, sheet and stuff like that. From now on I will be washing all of our clothing even if it comes in a sealed package.

I'm afraid to read it... I always wash underwear and swimsuits... anything touching me down there. But now I'm worried too.
ReplyDeleteOMG... I totally always wore them. I'm so grossed out now. Even worse I hate that I put my kids in them. Its funny because somethings I insiste on washing, like jammies, but not regular clothes. Thanks so much for passing on that info!!!

I try to wash most things that lay right next to your skin.
ReplyDeleteI wash because chemicals that are on them. But love bug ran out of panties with the fun potty training and we opened a new pair and wore them before washing... good thing they are in a plastic casing, that should be better than just on the hanger right?
